GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Fire Alarm Technician Apprentice will learn duties including install and service of fire alarm systems with knowledge of multiple manufacturer's products. The Fire Alarm Service Technician will provide accurate and detailed work orders and daily reports with proper documentation of improvements and complications.

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS/DUTIES

  • Tests all equipment after installation or repairs made to ensure performance of system
  • Work in compliance with the Company's safety manual with safety of self and others in mind at all times
  • Daily communications with Project Manager and/or Schedule Coordinator on inspection or project delays, requirements and general status of jobs
  • All work is performed to NFPA and Company standards with quality inspection and installation techniques practiced
  • Willing to complete documentation as necessary in a neat and timely fashion; with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Willing to use mobile electronics such as a computer tablet to record and transmit inspection documents
  • Willing to coordinate between inspection deficiencies and service required to correct found deficiencies
  • Maintains equipment and supplies to ensure they are in good working order.
  • Works with Project Manager, Schedule Coordinator and Office Administrative Staff to ensure complete closeout and turnover of jobs to the client (Ensure that work is completed so it can be billed in full)
  • Possess a valid driver's license; in accordance with Company policy, and be willing to travel within the state of Colorado
  • Willing to pass pre-employment drug screen, reference and background check
  • Other duties as assigned

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of NFPA code is preferred
  • Willing to handle low voltage wiring and corresponding devices for the operation of low voltage equipment
  • Reports are to be completed electronically on mobile equipment, provided by the employer
  • Provide other support whether apparent, required or needed

Reports To: Lee Helmers Inspections Manager

Department: Inspections

General Description: This individual will report to the department manager and will be responsible for performing with an inspection apprentice, routine fire alarm, sprinkler and extinguisher inspections with ASSE or ABPA backflow prevention assembly testing certifications preferred. The Lead Inspector will need to have the ability to use general hand tools and some power tools, operate small lifts and basic electrical knowledge is a plus. Job duties include, but are not limited to, servicing, inspecting, testing and troubleshooting of Fire Alarm/Fire Sprinkler systems to the prescribed standards. This position will also require the ability to follow a pre-determined schedule, accurate and timely submittal of inspections reports, service tickets.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Performing fire alarm, sprinkler and extinguisher inspections
  • Submitting inspection reports that are accurate and timely
  • Assure punctuality to all appointments
  • Availability 40 hours per week consistently

Skills, Knowledge and Capabilities:

  • Valid drivers license
  • 2+ years of experience in the field
  • Denver Licensed in Fire Alarm and/or Sprinkler
  • Inspection and testing knowledge of NFPA 25
  • Consistent attendance
  • Professional and interpersonal skills
  • Physical ability to transport the required tools/equipment to the location under varying conditions

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ASSE or ABPA Certified
  • Possesses Denver Licenses for Fire Alarm, Sprinkler and Portable Fire Extinguisher

The drawings produced will be used as a guide by every other link in the chain of construction, both on-site and in the office. Close coordination with the Project Manager, Superintendent and Estimating Department will be required throughout the life of the project. RESPONSIBILITIES:

Design and Layout of fire sprinkler systems

  • Review customer source control drawings, specification control drawings and other applicable specifications to determine requirements and/or feasibility of product
  • Sketch and perform mathematical computations to develop design and detailed specifications of components
  • Apply knowledge of mathematical formulas and physical laws and use conventional and computerized work aids to make calculations
  • Perform preliminary and advanced work in development of working layouts and final master drawings, adequate for detailing parts and units of design for new proposals and current designs
  • Revise size, shape and arrangement of parts to create practical design drawings
  • Prepare acceptance test procedures and assembly instructions
  • Assist with the preparation of proposal documentation, technical data such as qualification test procedures, reports, component maintenance manuals, etc.
  • Design studies, tolerance stack-ups, layouts, drawings, calculations, weight estimates, supporting documentation, etc., are to be completed on CAD or other computer applications
  • Analyze new & existing buildings for NFPA 13, 14 and 20 compliance, compose reports detailing design changes necessary
  • Prepare submittal drawings and documentation for new sprinkler systems and alterations to existing systems
  • Conduct hydraulic analysis of fire sprinkler system designs, including sprinklers, standpipes, pumps, municipal supplies, etc.
  • Coordination of sprinkler system with architectural, structural and mechanical systems
  • Review construction drawings and specifications
  • Updating of shop drawings and materials for project record and close out procedures
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Associate degree in a science or engineering discipline
  • AutoCAD experience and working knowledge of NFPA 13, 14 and 20
  • Senior Designer: Bachelor's degree and 10+ years AutoSprink or HydroCAD experience, NICET L3 or L4 Certification

GENERAL DESCRIPTION This is an apprenticeship program working side-by-side with a journeyman sprinkler fitter installing automatic fire protection systems. The job is in an outdoor environment with temperature changes as the season changes with loud noises at times. ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS/DUTIES ? Learn to install, repair and maintain all types of fixed sprinkler systems, including underground piping ? Working with steel, copper and CPVC pipe ?
